DAT'S WRITE is our exciting new play commissioning program. In collaboration with Run of the Mill Theatre, Dramatic Adventure Theatre will present a reading of a brand new, full-length play at the Kennedy Center's 9th Annual "Page to Stage" in Washington D.C., kicking off a three-day event of free readings and open rehearsals of plays and musicals being developed by local, regional, and national playwrights, librettists, and composers.
THE PLAY
Dramatic Adventure Theatre commissioned resident playwright, Jason Williamson, to develop a play based on his travels through Ecuador, from the Andes to the Coast. This resulted in a play, now titled "Prayer of the Condor" (previously titled "Feathers for Her Skin" & "Three Condors: A Tigua Painting for the Stage"). Prayer of the Condor draws on local myths, history, and artwork, particularly the Tigua folk paintings native to the Andes. These paintings are rendered on sheep hide and often depict indigenous mythology, with special focus on the figure of the condor. Jason utilizes the condor mythology to examine issues of alienation, cultural isolation, and poverty that face post-colonial societies in this intriguing production directed by resident stage director, Kathleen Amshoff.
"An indie love story meets Andean myth!" ~ Jason Williamson
