Liz Baessler is a member of the Class of 2011 at Brandeis University, although she’s actually not Jewish, in case you were thinking of asking, as people tend to do. She is working very hard to get her B.A. in English Literature with minors in Theatre and Creative Writing. Liz was the president of her high school’s Drama Club, but as her school did only bizarre compilations of scenes from little-known plays and in-house written skits, you wouldn’t recognize any of her roles, apart from Emily Webb in the wedding scene of Our Town. Outside of high school but during high school she took many an acting class with the likes of Mark Roth, Nancy Hasty, and Carol Kremer, and appeared in David Schmidt’s Lust, Lugers, and Larceny in a part that was originally written for a gay man. Her freshman year of college she tried out for a few things, didn’t get anything, and sulked in the corner for a year with the bitter lamentation that she “wanted to focus on her grades, anyway.” Her sophomore year she did a fly crewing of Brandeis Theater Company’s Saturday Night that some audience members (her friends) called “dazzling.” She appeared for the first time on the Brandeis stage as Cobweb/Fairy/Snug the Joiner in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Hold Thy Peace, an all-Shakespeare company with which she has fallen in of late. Liz would like to think that some audience members called her “the prettiest little fairy (they’d) ever seen,” but as of yet no one has come forward.
