Alena Acker, a graduate of the University of Michigan and native Detroiter, is thrilled to be embarking on the amazing adventure that ACTion Ecuador 2010 will undoubtedly be. An experienced traveler and theatre artist, Alena has performed on three continents and very much looks forward to her first visit to South America this summer. In Germany, she produced and performed in a staged reading of Aristophanes' Lysistrata for the city of Freiburg as part of the Lysistrata Project on 03/03/2003 to protest the war in Iraq. Alena also spent almost two years in South Korea, writing, directing, and performing in plays and musicals designed to help children learn and practice English at the English Village, an educational theme park. In New York, Alena was most recently seen in the Looking Glass Theatre's V-DAY benefit production of A Memory, a Monologue, a Rant and a Prayer, as well as in the original musical review If This Ain't It at Theater for the New City. She is also a regular guest artist with LMAO, an Off-Broadway improv comedy show. Look for her in the upcoming comedic web series Mother Eve's Secret Garden of Sensual Sisterhood at www.mothereves.com. Alena is excited to have her lens on the world altered by the people of Ecuador and hopes she can give them something in return.
