International Retreat
A Creative Trek for Writers & Artists

The International Retreat is designed to allow artists the opportunity to work in a foreign environment—both for the inspiration provided by fresh external stimuli as well as the privacy afforded by the refuge of travel. Whether you are a painter or writer, blogger or musician, all artists are encouraged to shape their own experience by implementing the optional lectures, workshops, tours and other location-specific events scheduled. Daily informal group-sharing sessions will allow artists the option to share their work with others in order to engage in dialogue with fellow artists and audiences.

“Art, in all forms, is an exhilarating exploration of humanity and the world around us. This journey into the heart of Europe is an excellent opportunity to learn, share, and grow as an artist and human being. Join us for an International Retreat that will change the way you look at your work and the world around you!”
~ Jesse Baxter, Founder & Artistic Director of Dramatic Adventure Theatre

Teaching Artist Residency
International Retreat: Slovakia
January 1 - January 10, 2012

The 2012 International Retreat will be held in Slovakia — a country marked by its jagged landscape, medieval castles, and rich heritage. While working on both new and in-progress projects, artists will travel from western to eastern Slovakia and visit five distinct communities throughout rural and urban areas of the country during its most-celebrated holiday season.

Who can attend an International Retreat?
This International Retreat is open to artists of all disciplines who are 18 or older. Ideally artists are either in the midst of a project or desire to create a new project based on this experience. Although you most likely will be working independently, our travelling artists should feel comfortable sharing their work-in-progress and contributing to the optional group discussions.

..“I have never been more stimulated or creative than I was while abroad with DAT --writing, creating, giving, and learning were priorities and time was no burden; this combination made inspiration flourish.”
.~ Jennifer Robideau, English Teacher & Writer (Hawaii)

.."This project has made me more resourceful. I expanded my photography portfolio as well as my network in NYC. I also have become inspired to create due to the culture."
