Esperanza

A new play by DAT with Jesse Baxter, Alena Acker, Dianna Beshara, Katarina Hughes, Maggie Thompson, Lauren Ullrich and Bryant Vance

ACTion Fest 2010, Poco a Poco
Gene Frankel Theater, NYC

On ACTion: Ecuador, our team of artists traveled across Ecuador and high into the Andes -- teaching theater skills and basic English, offering community aid and developing Esperanza.

Through the lens of Andean folklore and mask-work, our artists dove deep into their personal mythologies.  Discovering a shared theme of isolation, each actor developed masked characters struggling to break away from their lonely worlds.  These characters, forced to work against their nature, found themselves in a situation where they had no choice but to rely on the help of strangers (each other) to save the day and ultimately themselves.  Along this journey, our characters discovered just how much we all are capable of when we come together.

“This high energy play was like riding a log flume at Splash Mountain. It twists, turns, drops, and everybody gets wet!”
