Casting Notice:

PRAYER OF THE CONDOR - Staged Reading Auditions

Submission Deadline: March 23. Audition: March 25.

Rehearsals: May 2 – May 5. Reading: May 6.

Dramatic Adventure Theatre is casting a staged reading of Prayer of the Condor, a new play commissioned by Dramatic Adventure Theatre and featured at the 2010 Kennedy Center Page-to-Stage Festival. The reading will be featured as part of DAT’s 5th year anniversary celebration. DAT Resident Playwright, Jason Williamson, conceived Prayer of the Condor over the course of two summers spent working within several Quechuan communities in the Andes. The play intentionally combines Quechuan folk tales and songs with American idioms, creating a theatrical world that exists somewhere in between. Puppets portray the colorful animals in the play – the majestic but unloved condor, a talking ram sidekick and the mean-girl hummingbirds who undermine the central love story. Kathleen Amshoff, dir.; Jesse Baxter, artistic dir.; Mary K. Redington, executive dir.

The Condor is the Andean messenger to the gods, carrying prayers from the people below. On a visit to the land, he unexpectedly falls in love with a shepherdess, Chaska, and appears to her as a boy. Their romance develops while the world’s prayers go unheard. When Chaska has to choose between her attraction to the Condor and her devotion to her family, surprising transformations occur.

Auditions will be held by appt. only in NYC on Friday, March 25. Send headshots & résumés to Dramatic Adventure Theatre, 41-28 52nd St., #2R, Queens, NY 11377, Attn: Jesse Baxter; or email to info@dramaticadventure.com. Email is preferable. Submission deadline is March 23. All submissions will be archived for consideration in future projects. For more info, visit www.dramaticadventure.com. No pay provided.
