We are now raising funds to begin this ambitious project. A vast majority of the artists in Zimbabwe have fled the country... especially the older artists. We would like to work with the community to create a place for talent to grow, a place where artistic mentorship can happen. These are the voices of Zimbabwe's future and we want to help them mature to their full potential. The Bulawayo Young Company will be a refuge and a breeding ground for talented young artists. It will be Zimbabwe's first conservatory training program, a performance venue for Bulawayo's independent artists and theatre companies, and will serve as headquarters for Dramatic Adventure Theatre as we continue our work in the region.
DAT will work in collaboration with Amakhosi Theatre to mold these talented young people into skilled theatre artists through professional caliber workshops, rehearsals, and performances. We hope the Bulawayo Young Company's work will eventually be exhibited on a professional scale in Zimbabwe's theatre festivals. This company will employ local artists and will have resident DAT artists assisting year round, this will allow for much cross-cultural interaction and a diverse training. Perhaps in the future this company will even have the opportunity to perform here in the United States in an effort to further raise awareness and support.
One of the great things about the Bulawayo Young Company is it's rippling effect, not only will Dramatic Adventure and it's supporters make an incredible difference in the lives of these young artists, but these young artists will then go out and make a difference in the lives of their community.
This will be an ongoing project in Zimbabwe for Dramatic Adventure Theatre and we are very excited about its future possibilities. This project can run smoothly for a year on $30,000. That's less than a new car. Let's raise that money and make a "dramatic" difference in the lives of many! |
