BULAWAYO YOUNG COMPANY

Bulawayo Young Company
While the DAT team worked with Amakhosi Theatre, the renowned theatre in Bulawayo, the professional artists from DAT and Amakhosi both noticed the amazing amount of talented young people in the Bulawayo area. In reference to a workshop performance with these talented young people, the VOICES FROM ZIMBABWE Director, Kathleen Amshoff, skillfully coined the title, "The Bulawayo Young Company", which the leaders at Amakhosi Theatre embraced immediately. Dramatic Adventure Theatre will return to Zimbabwe in the fall of 2008 to formally assemble the company, which we hope to have perform the following spring at HIFA, the Harare Internationally Festival of the Arts in Dramatic Adventure Theatre's original production, III ACTS.

We are now raising funds to start Bulawayo Young Company. This will be a company of young talented actors based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe whom we've already established contact with during VOICES FROM ZIMBABWE's previous workshops. These kids have a natural talent and we are going to provide a place for that talent to grow, instead of letting the situation in Zimbabwe snuff out all artistic expression and destroy it's own native talents. These are the voices of Zimbabwe's future and we want to protect those voices.

We recently traveled with a team of theatre artists to empower the voices of children in a place where their voices are often forgotten; Zimbabwe. DAT developed a full-length play through many workshops with locals and in collaboration with Amkhosi Theatre. These generous artists, Memory and Styx, lay out THE NEXT CHALLENGE for Dramatic Adventure Theatre...Bulawayo Young Company!

DAT will work in collaboration with Amakhosi Theatre to mold these talented young people into skilled theatre artists through professional caliber workshops, rehearsals, and performances. The Bulawayo Young Company's work will then be exhibited on a professional scale in HIFA and other venues. This company will employ local artists and allow for much cross-cultural interaction. And perhaps in the future this company will even have the oportunity to perform here in the United States in an effort to further raise awareness and support.

One of the great things about the Bulawayo Young Company is that, not only will Dramatic Adventure and it's supporters make an incredible difference in the lives of these young artists, but these young artists will then go out and make a difference in the lives of their community via public performances. This will be an ongoing project in Zimbabwe for Dramatic Adventure Theatre and we are very excited about its future possibilities.
