When we travel, we get an opportunity to see new things with fresh eyes. Journaling is the best form of expression when we travel because we can sometimes experience hundreds of new things each day and writing them down means we won’t forget them.
Some people have a gift for capturing what we experience on paper. They can find the words to express the way we feel. These people might find inspiration during events in their own life. Maybe they see something or meet someone who inspires a tale to be spun in their mind.
DAT keeps writers at the very heart of this work. We know that without the stories that are so graciously shared with us, we would not be able to finish the work—to empower these voices.
The III Acts project is an amazing opportunity for professional playwrights to add their voices to this incredible work.
In the fall of 2008, three playwrights (one Zimbabwean based, two U.S. based) will travel around the country of Zimbabwe to larger cities and rural areas; they will see all the important sites and have an opportunity to meet Zimbabweans from all walks of life.
The name "III Acts" encompasses many different things- first, each playwright will write one of the three acts. Second, each act will tell a different story about a person who has done a great act; i.e. an act of courage, an act of kindness, an act of desperation. Third, these acts of great acts will be acted out in Dramatic Adventure’s first HIFA production by the Bulawayo Young Company in cooperation with Amakhosi Theatre.
The playwrights will travel around Zimbabwe for 6-weeks and will have an additional 2-weeks after the trip to finalize a rough draft. After this time the scripts will be given to the HIFA project director who will work closely with the playwrights to make the full play cohesive and to honor each unique vision.
